Google launches Mini 2.2

Mini upgraded for smaller businesses

Written by Phil Muncaster

Google has upgraded its Mini search products for small and medium-sized firms to include all the functionality of the Google Search Appliance, boosting security and the range of information that can be indexed, according to the firm.

Mini 2.2 – available, as before, in versions that search from 50,000 up to 300,000 documents – now supports Onebox for Enterprise, so firms will be able to search data from their BI, ERP and CRM systems.

Security is also enhanced with support for enterprise access control capabilities, while a new feature means that if you let the Mini index your web site, it will be optimised to become more visible to Google.com's spiders – boosting the chances of higher ranking, according to the firm's European enterprise director Roberto Solimene.

"This is the evolution of the Mini and we are introducing it now because it has matured," he added. "It is the entry level option for smaller organisations who want to have that same level of experience without a [dedicated] IT department."
