Storage giant EMC has unveiled a major update to four of its product lines designed to bolster performance, improve energy efficiency and extend support for the iSCSI protocol.

Under the refresh, EMC has launched a new version of its high-end Symmetrix DMX-3 networked storage system. The latest addition is an entry-level product for mid-market firms and branch offices with smaller datacentres.

David Donatelli, executive vice-president for EMC’s Storage Products Operations unit, said the new DMX-3 950 system has been tailored to suit datacentres with space and power constraints. He added that it offers up to 30 percent better energy efficiency compared with rivals and an improved web-based console for managing data replication as part of business continuity plans.

The storage vendor also unveiled a new version of its midrange 4Gbit/s Clariion CX3 UltraScale series system featuring enhanced performance and dual-protocol support for both Fibre Channel and iSCSI.

Donatelli said the upgrade also boasts new wizard-based functionality to make it easier to configure the array. “We’ve reduced the number of clicks it takes by 70 percent,” he said.

Four new models in EMC’s Celerra NS series of network attached storage (NAS) systems have also been launched, offering a 39 percent performance improvement on previous models. Meanwhile, a new version of EMC’s Disk Library boasts double the performance of previous versions, the firm said.
