Red Hat offers app server stack

Red Hat Application Stack bundles Linux with JBoss, Apache Tomcat and other deployment software

Written by IT Week staff

Firms have a new J2EE application server option today with the launch of Red Hat Application Stack (RHAS), a Linux distribution that includes Red Hat Enterprise Linux, JBoss Application Server, Apache Tomcat, JBoss Hibernate and support for MySQL and PostgreSQL databases.

Todd Barr of Red Hat said this is the first time that firms can buy a complete open-source application server stack from a single supplier with full support. He added that the JBoss Hibernate middleware layer abstracts access to databases, so developers can move apps from one database to another without changing any code. Red Hat’s support also covers MySQL and PostgreSQL databases.

RHAS costs from $1,999 (£1,050) per server for four CPU sockets.
