Dun & Bradstreet Direct Marketing

Dun and Bradstreet has launched a Web-based direct marketing service that offers the contact details of over two million actively trading UK companies. Users can build lists of potential clients by inputting specific selection criteria including type of business, turnover, geographical location and number of employees.

The service then produces a list of companies that meet the user's criteria. Each company listing includes its address, legal form, line of business, phone number and SIC code. It is free to search the Direct Marketing service and to obtain details of 25 random companies, but users have to contact Dun & Bradstreet for additional reports. A full list can be ordered from the Web site and is deliverable via e-mail, fax or post. Prices depend on the number of companies and depth of content required, but are subject to a minimum charge of £250.

Remaining content in Cancer News On the Net is categorised under a wide range of cancer types including breast cancer, leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. The Source

Aimed at journalists, marketing staff and public relations executives in the IT industry, this site is a good source for obtaining contacts and magazine information. It provides an A-Z directory of PR agencies, a list of IT experts, details of events, information on industry magazines, and a press release newswire.

Its list of IT experts includes industry organisations, professional associations, consultancies and IT user groups. The site's 'magazines' section is particularly valuable, offering features lists and editorial contacts (including e-mail addresses) for each title. The Source is maintained by independent publisher Daryl Willcox Publishing Ltd and is hosted by NetCom.

The International Herald Tribune

The electronic version of this international newspaper provides a summary of each day's print edition plus an archive covering the previous week. Articles are broken down into 'today's news', 'features', 'dispatches', 'funds' and 'markets'. An introduction to each story is displayed for quick browsing, followed by a hyperlink to the full story. The 'dispatches' section is particularly appealing with a range of stories offered from major cities around the world including New York, London, Brussels, Paris, Washington and Singapore. The site is free to access.

Business and Industry Database

Higher education institutions in the UK and Ireland can now gain Web access to the Business and Industry (B&I) database from Responsive Data Services, following an agreement with CHEST (Combined Higher Education Software Team). The database, which offers content from 880 business publications, is available to institutions on a site licence basis for an annual fee.

B&I reports on business activities in over 200 countries and, according to CHEST, institutions will have access to over 60% of the full text. Access to the service on the Web has been set up by the UK's National Information Services and Systems (NISS).
