Aggregated intelligence for drug researchers

What is claimed to be the first Web-based business intelligence service designed specifically for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies involved in drug research goes live next month. Paracel Inc's BioView TODAY provides access to data from over 2500 sources, including those offered by DowVision, IAC's PROMT, Derwent Biotechnology Abstracts and IntellX.

According to Paracel, which develops news filtering software, BioView TODAY aims to provide the industry's managers, executives and scientists with Web-based access to breaking news on competitors, patents, scientific discoveries, regulatory developments and financial market information.

The site splits information into Today's News, Week in Review and a historical archive. Additionally, users can opt to run BioAlert! software, which provides a scrolling ticker with headlines and selected stock quotes. When a headline is selected, BioAlert! automatically launches the user's Web browser and displays the full text of the article.

Among the first companies to sign up with BioView is Perkin-Elmer Applied Biosystems, which will provide access to the service for 500 of its executives, managers and scientists. The site will be available for a fixed yearly subscription, although exact details have yet to be announced.
