Business review: iPhone out of touch with business needs

An Apple iPhone

Verdict:

Apple’s iPhone is a good device for browsing the web using Wi-Fi, but is somewhat slow over GPRS/Edge. Its user interface is also a fine example of how to make devices more accessible. However, as a business client it needs better support for corporate email systems, while the on-screen keyboard is not suitable for typing anything other than short messages. PROS: Innovative user interface; excellent mobile web browser CONS: Soft keyboard; browser incompatible with many web apps

Overall Rating:

four star

iPhone NOT for Everyone

The iPhone is for is not for everyone.

The enterprise market is slow to act on new technologies because of the scale and implementation costs. The iPhone is aimed at the more flexible pro-sumer and small business market- not tied down to IT approvals and biases.

Apple's focus needs to be where they can implement innovation quickly and deliver it to those who see it as an immediate advantage to other products in the same market.

The last thing you want to do is to try to sell a product to a culture which has distinct disdain for your products- that would be a waste of money.

It seems you are out of touch with Apple's Business

Apple does not and has not designed the iPhone for business users. In fact, you cannot activate the phone through a business account. Apple sells to consumers and small businesses -- bigger than the corporate market. You are just adding to the hype. The corporate market is not were Apple wants to be and the corporate market does not need Apple. You are only adding more hype for a company that should be paying for this free publicity.
