Review: HP ProLiant DL380 G5

HP 2u server

Verdict:

HP's fifth-generation rack server delivers on all counts, with a quality mix of components, superb design and expansion capabilities, plus a classy remote management act. Pros: Top build quality and internal design; high PCI-e slot count; plenty of storage possibilities; quality management features; well-featured Raid card and Systems Insight panel. Cons: Dual-core rather than quad-core Xeons

Overall Rating:

Not a good server

If you plan on running this server from two separate power circuits for redundancy, it's not going to work. This server requires 3 power supplies to operate and 1 as a hot spare. So, if you have 2 plugged into one circuit and 2 plugged into the backup circuit, if one fails, then your whole server will shutdown. Even worse, if you server is on and this happens, the power back plane will fry and you now have to wait 24 hours for HP to replace it. This is some of the worse engineering I have ever seen.
