What was your first job and how did you get into IT?
When I finished school I found a job as an IT consultant for a big publishing
company. I implemented a new database system for them that was later used to
manage the delivery of their publications across the country. I also trained
their personnel and supported the system for over a year. It was a very
challenging task considering it was 1994 and I had to develop my solution on
DBIII for DOS! It was
extremely fulfilling and I truly enjoyed it from start to finish.
Which mobile device do you use?
An XDA Stellar. I find it both reasonably easy to use and efficient.
What coming government legislation will most affect your IT operations?
Increasing pressure on business to become more energy efficient will inevitably affect the way we conduct our business. I personally think that we all have to contribute to this cause, regardless of what any law says.
If you were not working in IT, what would you be doing?
I have a very modest family background and to support my studies I did a variety of jobs, including cook and delivery boy. I am in IT because I want to be and I wouldn’t change this for anything else.
Which technology has had the biggest impact on your working life?
Mobile communication. Although at times I wish it was never invented, I cannot imagine my professional life without it.
Is now a good time for people to enter the UK IT profession?
I don’t think there has ever been a bad time to enter the IT market. At present I would highly recommend the co-location industry if you want to learn and develop your skills.
