Recruitment firm moves to Databarracks private cloud to boost performance and cut costs

Recruitment firm Vadarmoss has implemented private cloud technology from software provider Databarracks to improve performance for remote workers and save money.

Vadarmoss' operations director Gary Williams said the new system is necessary because the company's consultants were experiencing poor performance with its IT systems.

"We had Dell servers on the premises and one of them was coming to an end. We had the option to buy another server but because of the [performance] problems we were experiencing, I explored the possibility of migrating the systems to the cloud instead," he said.

Williams said that he was getting calls on a regular basis from consultants complaining that the systems were slow or that an application had frozen. 

"It was wasting my time as well as the consultants'," he explained.

The new system implemented by Databarracks is built on a VMware and HP Blade infrastructure.

Databarracks was chosen ahead of other cloud providers including Rackspace because the company was already using Databarracks for online back-up. Williams also liked the fact that the provider was willing to meet face-to-face with him to explain how the Databarracks solution would meet the requirements of Vadarmoss.

Databarracks produced a migration plan for Vadarmoss and by the end of October Vadarmoss' systems had been virtualised.

The recruitment firm piloted the cloud until mid-December 2011 and it then disconnected its Dell systems. This took place on a Friday evening and on the following Monday, the firm went live with Databarracks cloud infrastructure.

Vadarmoss' Adapt CRM system, its Microsoft applications, file shares and internal resources were then hosted in the cloud.

Databarracks provides helpdesk support and disaster recovery as part of the package, allowing Vadarmoss to end its helpdesk deal with IT services firm Equanet.

Williams said that the cloud infrastructure will support the roll out of new services and intiatives, such as social media and social recruiting to its employees, candidates and clients.
