Andy Haywood is to leave his job as IT director of Boots to become group CIO at the Co-operative Group.
He will start his new job at the beginning of 2012.
The appointment is part of the Co-op's ongoing IT transformation. Haywood will be a member of the group executive team.
Over the past few years, the Co-operative Group has merged the its own IT systems with those of Somerfield, following an acquisition in 2008.
In 2009, it merged the IT supporting its financial services division with those of the Britannia building society following a second merger.
Before joining Boots, Haywood worked for Halifax, Bank of Scotland and Asda.
