MCDC, the datacentre division of Matterhorn Capital, has announced it will invest £250m in two datacentre sites in the south-east England.
The sites in Bury Green, Hertfordshire and Chesham, Buckinghamshire will house 180,000 sq ft of data hall space.
The Bury Green site will be the first in the UK to host on-site power, while MCDC is in discussions with a power provider for the Chesham site.
MCDC has hinted at the possibility of tapping into the City of London for generating money, as it claims that having datacentres in the Greater London area allows for synchronicity with multinational businesses and financial service firms.
The company also suggests that being so close to London will allow businesses in the area to quickly and easily reinforce their data in an emergency.
"The purchase of the Chesham and Bury Green sites by Matterhorn Capital could prove significant for the market going forwards," said Mark Larard, director of the Datacentre Advisory Group.
"These two sites will account for more than 180,000 sq ft of technical space, which could provide a very critical niche in the market, at a time when there is little construction and growing demand."
