Metro Bank is to deploy Trusteer's Rapport secure browsing service in a bid to ensure customers are protected when carrying out online transactions.

The bank said Trusteer allows it to scale rapidly, from protecting several thousand customers one day to millions the next. The company added that it has experienced considerable growth since its launch in July 2010.

Metro Bank said that the strength of Trusteer's technology is that it protects customers at their own PC, providing a trusted secure access point to the bank.

It added that when a Trusteer user browses sensitive web sites such as internet banking, the service immediately locks down the browser and creates a secure tunnel for safe communication with the web site.

In addition, when a customer uses their bank card to make an online purchase from a computer protected by Trusteer, the Rapport service automatically detects the action and prevents fraudsters from intercepting the card number.

"When we launched in July, we wanted to differentiate our services from other high-street banks," said Craig Donaldson, CEO at Metro Bank.

"We take the security of our customers very seriously and that means we are offering the best security we can."

Security pin system

What is it with these people who complain about the new security pin, once you've got used to it it takes no time at all, after all whose benefit do they think it is for. I've banked with hsbc all my adult life and I'm now in my late sixties and across the board have no complaints.
