UK chip firm aims to expand smartphone reach with merger

CSR mobile chip maker

Cambridge-based chip manufacturer CSR is to acquire Silicon Valley-based company Zoran Corporation for about $679m (£420m).

CSR makes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS products and Zoran provides imaging and video technology for digital cameras, home entertainment and printers.

The merger will allow CSR to provide integrated technology that addresses the growing market for connected, location-aware multimedia devices.
