IBM is to expand its Internet payment options, allowing consumers and merchants to communicate even when they support different protocols. According to US reports, IBM plans to support a hybrid standard called Moset, which allows the two main technologies in this area ? SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and SET (Secure Electronic Transactions) ? to interoperate. The IBM scheme will enable consumers using SSL security, which is deployed in most web browsers, to pay for goods online with a credit card, even if the merchant and bank involved use SET protocol.
