Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) is introducing an employee intranet and portal at its sites across the world.

The intranet, which is being installed in phases and has just gone live in Europe, will eventually be used by staff at the group’s 3,500 hotels.

‘One of our goals is to become more effective at collaboration and better at working together as a company,’ said David House, IHG’s senior vice president for global human resources.

House says the intranet should end instances of IHG often duplicating work.

‘We have regional resources that support functions such as marketing, human resources, finance and IT. All of these departments are tackling similar problems independently.

For example, you might have marketing efforts going on in one part of the world and someone doing a similar kind of thing in another without knowing it,’ he said.

‘We want people to use the intranet to bridge these gaps, to improve availability of information, and to better exploit the intellectual capital in the organisation.’

As well as the intranet from Mediasurface, IHG is installing portal software from vendor Plumtree.
