IT is critical to Standard Life's strategy

Standard Life has promoted one of its senior IT managers, Bill Birnie, to the post of director of IS business solutions.

During his tenure at Standard Life, highlights of Birnie’s work included the introduction of agile techniques, the co-ordination of the insurer’s Year 2000 programme and setting up a business services function within the IT operations area.

Birnie has more than 23 years' experience of working in a variety of IT roles at the insurance group, including programmer, analyst, designer and project manager. He will continue to report to the firm’s IT director, Keith Young.

“This appointment, reflects the increasingly important role that IS business solutions plays in supporting Standard Life’s growth strategy,” the company said in a statement.
