The developer of a controversial technology to deliver high-speed Internet connection via powerlines claims its service will be operating by the end of the year, writes Steve Ranger.
Earlier this year the Radiocommunications Agency (RA) warned that if Nor.Web DPL launched a service using the digital powerline technology as it stood, it could be shut down because of potential interference with military, GCHQ and aviation transmissions.

Nor.Web DPL nevertheless says one customer - possibly Manchester-based Norweb Communications - is preparing commercial trials, even though the government and RA have not decided if the service's level of emissions is acceptable.
Nor.Web DPL finance director John Cooper said: 'What we are saying is that the technology is stable and our customers are now moving to the stage of commercial trials. We send emissions into the ether, but so do other services, and the decision has to be made if that is acceptable.'
