IT directors have now pledged almost 8,000 PCs to our Computer Aid 2004 Appeal.

Working with specialist charity Computer Aid International, we're asking the UK's technology leaders to donate old PCs so they can have a second life in the developing world.

'It makes good business sense for IT Directors to think of Computer Aid as their first port of call,' said Tony Roberts, director of Computer Aid International.

'First, Computer Aid offers a cost-effective, high level, and professional service. Secondly, IT Directors are playing an increasingly important role in delivering company social responsibility programmes, particularly in the areas of social and environmental responsibility.'

The number of pledged PCs continues to grow as hundreds of public and private sector IT directors back the campaign.

Computer Aid International provides a free re-conditioning service to help companies dispose of unwanted kit effectively.

The charity recently signed a deal with data erasure specialist Blancco that will allow it to guarantee donors GCHQ-approved data removal from any hard disk.

Donated computers are tested, refurbished, fully upgraded and shipped to developing countries.
