Linux NetworX has launched 10/100 and Gigabit Ethernet RapidFlow switches that can be used to cluster Linux systems.
The switches have been integrated into the company's range of hardware clustering products. They can support up to 64Gbps of bandwidth, and from 24 up to 120 ports, operating at Layers 2 and 3.
President and CEO of Linux NetworX, Glen Lowry, said the switches offer scalability and manageability for customers looking for accelerated data routing.
"We believe clustering involves more than simply shipping boxes with Linux installed. By integrating RapidFlow into our cluster systems, Linux NetworX provides a complete end-to-end product," he added.
Dan Kuznetsky, analyst at IDC, said that clustering Linux would become more widespread as the free OS became more accepted in the enterprise.
"As more and more corporates take up Linux, it will be seen as a cheap alternative to high-powered machines," he said.
