Corel says it will integrate Netscape's forthcoming groupware client and Web browser into future versions of its own application suites.

The announcement is an effort to counter the launch of Office 97, Microsoft's latest application suite, which started shipping last week.

Netscape's Communicator client will be integrated with Corel's WordPerfect and Office Professional 8 application suites, due to start beta test next month.

Communicator in the Corel suites will offer similar functions to those offered in Office 97. The Microsoft suite allows users to send email or browse the Web from within applications. They can also embed hyper-links in documents.

Oliver Roll, senior product manager at Microsoft UK, said: 'This is just Corel trying to keep up with us. Their product will try to integrate products from two companies, but the suite market is no longer about individual products, it's about integration.'
