Radio station Kiss has adopted cloud computing to better manage peaks of online demand and prepare for future web requirements.
Some 10 web sites under the TotalKiss.com portal – which includes Kiss 100, Kiss 101 and Kiss 105-108 – are being hosted and managed in the cloud, including an interface that allows users to listen to past and live content.
The broadcaster’s decision to use the technology was prompted by pressure on its infrastructure from features such as blogs, forums and users' ability to customise web pages, as well as spikes in demand caused by visitor volumes and advertising campaigns.
According to the firm, additional benefits of using cloud computing include its pay-as-you-go model, which will avoid investment in hardware that may become redundant at a later date.
The cloud computing service is being provided by Rackspace Hosting.
