Money obtained from the European Social Fund (ESF) has allowed the Youth Hostels Association (YHA) to update its IT infrastructure and skills.

The Association is encouraging staff to study for the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL), an international computer skills qualification promoted by the British Computer Society.

Since the launch of the project a year ago, 130 of the YHA's permanent staff have taken up the challenge by registering to study for ECDL. A total of 40 have now successfully gained the qualification.

"We have applied for further funding from the ESF and are looking to carry on with the project into next year. ECDL will become part of our National Training programme," said Aukje Noorman, ESF project officer for the YHA (England and Wales).
