American Express has joined forces with Concert, the BT and AT&T joint venture, and BT's Ignite broadband IP business, to market e-procurement services to corporates.
The service, called Smart eProcurement, makes American Express procurement services available on BT MarketSite, the business-to-business market operated by Commerce One. It is linked in turn to Global Trading Web, Commerce One's worldwide portals portfolio.
In a statement, the partnership said American Express will supply the "commercial and administrative framework necessary for financial settlement between buyers and sellers within the MarketSite portal". A spokesman said customers will see reductions in the cost of office equipment and computer supplies.
Charles Petrucelli, American Express president of travel services, said the arrangement would allow BT's business customers to integrate their online purchasing, from sourcing to payment and reconciliation.
