Food retailer Ahold has deployed Google Apps Premier across its 55,000-strong international workforce.

The retailer has supermarkets in Europe and the US, and is using Google
Apps to provide a single, global web-based communication and collaboration solution to replace Ahold’s existing email domains and systems.

The retailer said that the global deployment of Google Apps will provide consolidation and improved productivity through the use of efficient email and instant messenger tools.

In addition, it will provide training support via new video-based communication tools, such as video instant messaging, and improve international communication with features such as automatic Message Translate.

Wrong decision

Agree that Google apps come at 1/3 the cost of exchange(http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/details.html), but isn't the case that I get only 1/3 features as well. We shall not forget that Google Apps are not as rich as Microsoft applications. This is very poor example of cost efficiency at the cost of employees. Now those poor fellows have to struggle with poor UI of google apps.
