Two men were jailed this week for their part in an international phishing scam.
Leeds Crown Court sentenced US citizen Douglas Havard, 24, to six years, and Lee Elwood, 25, of Glasgow, to four years in prison for conspiracy to defraud and launder money.
The National Hi-Tech Crime Unit (NHTCU), which arrested the pair earlier this month, estimates they may have made more than £6.5m after using stolen financial information captured through phishing emails to clone credit cards.
Havard admitted to receiving batches of credit card details and passwords from Russian hackers, and to laundering a share of the proceeds back to them through money transfer agencies.
The NHTCU is now working with Russian law enforcement agencies, the US Secret Service and the FBI to track down the eastern European crime syndicates targeting UK online banks and trying to steal cash from customer accounts.
