BT has taken its 'first real step' towards complete intranet services to its customers by signing Digital as its first strategic hardware partner for corporate intranet services.
BT and its existing partner Microsoft will initially offer self-build Web server and security packages, based on Digital's Alpha and Intel systems and its own firewall solutions.
Digital is already the hardware platform for MCI's intranet service in the US, and the BT deal comes weeks after BT's alliance with MCI was announced.
Digital is also Microsoft's partner for enterprise computing.
Digital will supply two packages to be marketed in the UK by BT, said Robert Bismuth, Digital's vice president of corporate alliances. They are an Intel or Alpha-based Web server, priced from #8,000, and a configured security package, priced from #10,000.
