Paul Kurtz, executive director of the Cyber Security Industry Alliance, said he is concerned that rules differ too much, as various US states have their own IT security laws, and Europe-wide directives are implemented in different ways by member nations.
“This will create a complex environment to operate in,” Kurtz said. “We need a common set of standards, because if there are none, as an IT professional, how do you make decisions? At the moment there is an uneven playing field, whereby an attack in one country may not be considered a crime in another.”
