UK telephone operators have warned users that they should prepare for access code number changes beginning in June 1999.
Operators, including BT, Vodafone, Cellnet, One2One and Orange, have made up to three-digit changes to their mobile, pager and personal numbers.
They issued a joint booklet urging business to plan stationery changes and reprogramming of equipment in time for the switch. Some area codes will also change between next year and 2000. The mobile and pager transition period runs from September 1999 to April 2001. There will also be some new special-rate and premium-rate numbers.
Information can be obtained at www.numberchange.org and on (0808) 224 2000.
