The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has issued an apology after its cashpoint, online and telephone banking systems crashed.
Millions of RBS customers across Britain, and those of its subsidiary Natwest, were left without access to cash yesterday after their bank cards stopped working in ATMs and phone and online banking systems broke down.

'We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused to our customers,' said a spokeswoman.
All services had returned to normal by Sunday afternoon. RBS were unable to confirm this morning the reason for the crash.
