National Lottery operator Camelot Group has upgraded laptops used by remote users and installed encryption technology to stop data being accessed in the event of theft.
The firm is replacing more than 150 Compaq tablet PCs with HP models, equipping them with SafeGuard Easy technology to encrypt their data.
The technology uses a password system that increases in complexity every time a password is entered incorrectly.
‘The great danger when a laptop is stolen is losing the data,’ said Matthew Lord, technical security manager at Camelot.
‘If mobile employees misplace a device, it is only the device that is lost, not the data it contained.’
