United Utilities is adopting service-oriented architecture (SOA) to modernise its IT systems.
The electricity and water company has chosen Indian IT services provider Infosys to help update its operations management system (OMS) using SOA principles.
Over nine months, the upgrade will involve the design, development, migration and replatforming of OMS, to improve scalability and flexibility in United Utilities' IT infrastructure.
Opting for SOA will help improve customer services, said Mike Naden, IS services director at United Utilities .
“We focus on leveraging technology to better serve our customers and this is what has led us to adopt a service-oriented approach to our enterprise architecture," said Naden.
"Because ensuring regulatory compliance and improving customer service starts with improving back-end systems, we needed a technology partner with proven expertise," he said.
The utility company selected Infosys for its legacy modernisation service, which uses SOA principles to create a flexible IT environment.
