Microsoft acquires Hotmail

Free email will become a component of the Microsoft Network following the software giant's acquisition of Californian startup Hotmail. The acquired company offers free email accounts to anyone who can access the Web with a browser and has around nine million users. No financial details of the acquisition were released, but analysts estimated the share-based deal lost Microsoft hundreds of millions of dollars.
