Lancashire Constabulary has selected a complaints handling business process management (BPM) system to process accusations of misconduct more quickly.

The system will be installed at the force's headquarters in Hutton, where it will be used to ensure Lancashire's Professional Standards Department sticks to strict Independent Police Complaints Commission rules.

The OperaFlo system will also allow senior officers at Lancashire to gather more information on the force's performance, and allow complaints to be dealt with swiftly.

Every complaint made to the police is taken extremely seriously and there is a rigorous procedure for dealing with them, says detective chief superintendent Clive Tattum, the head of the Professional Standards Department at Lancashire Constabulary.

'The introduction of this new system is most certainly a step forward for us,' he said.

'The investment in the improvement of our complaints system will signify a more efficient and effective system and will greatly improve our customer service in the community and to our own staff.'
