WEEE directive delayed again
The Department of Trade and Industry has announced that it is delaying implementation of the Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) directive for six months until June 2006. The DTI has already postponed the implementation of the directive, which was due to become law by 13 August. The government cites a lack of experience among firms dealing with recycling as the reason for the delay.

LanDesk supplies yacht security
Yacht and luxury boat maker Sunseeker has installed IT management and security software from LanDesk to handle IT projects across its five factories in Dorset. The LanDesk products will help Sunseeker’s three IT staff support business desktops and servers using remote-control software. LanDesk Patch Manager and Security Suite products will also help rollout new security updates and monitor threats.

MasterCard to launch prepay
UK consumers will soon be able to pay for goods without cash using prepaid cards from MasterCard Europe and payments technology firm Advanced Payment Solutions. The Cashplus card is scheduled to be launched in September. The chip-and-PIN-enabled cards operate in exactly the same way as traditional credit or debit cards.

Home networks demand rises
Annual sales of networking hardware will rise from almost $9bn (£5bn) in 2004 to more than $21bn (£11.6bn) in 2009, research predicts. According to analyst In-Stat, demand for higher speeds, lower prices and increasing network areas in the home is driving a huge growth in domestic networking.
