Sutton Local Authority has introduced a centralised data backup system for 70 schools and colleges in the area.
The educational establishments are increasing relying on IT systems for both administration and teaching resources.
The authority decided a central backup infrastructure would be cheaper than requiring each school or college to backup themselves.
Daniel Gale, network manager for the children, young people and learning services group at Sutton Local Authority said the backup system would be used at least once a week.
“The schools and colleges are happy that they don’t have to take responsibility for backing up their data and I’m happy because I’m confident that any lost data can be recovered quickly and efficiently," he said.
The authority carries out daily incremental backups on each institution’s server and the six core servers at the authority's central office with no impact on server performance.
The system comes from vendor Acronis.
