The owner of original pound retailers Superpound and The Big 99p Store, is to implement electronic point-of-sale systems to improve supply chain visibility.
Supergifts will replace its ageing electronic cash registers with the new system in two shops before rolling it out across its whole chain of 30 outlets.
The end-to-end Epos system will allow Supergifts greater visibility of stock in store and overall stock holding, as well as providing information on the selling patterns of different products.
It will also provide centralised control of cash and banking information.
Head of Supergifts David Facer says the information it will gain will be invaluable in determining what the company should be buying and replenishing.
‘It will enable us to define accurate margins, inform us what we are selling and help us forecast what the hot sellers are so we can try to avoid availability issues,’ he said.
Previously staff replenished from manual stock and order but the company recognised new IT investment was needed to maximise boost sales.
Supergifts chose the VPoS system from VoiteQ, an open database design that enables it to be linked easily to other applications.
Facer said: ‘I looked at six other EPoS systems but (wanted) an end-to-end system that would suit the company. We don’t need to buy separate purchasing software and VPoS will provide us with data and records in a common system.
‘It also has an integrated solution for credit and debit card transactions.’
