Barclaycard and Barclays are replacing their card portfolios with new contactless cards

Coffee shop chain Caffè Nero has rolled out contactless payment technology across its entire branch network.

This follows a trial of an integrated EPoS contactless system in a number of central London stores last December, leading up to the completion of the rollout in all outlets in October.

Under the touch-and-go model, consumers can simply hold up cards to a reader to buy goods and services without the need to enter a PIN code.

The Caffè Nero project follows the news that Barclays and Barclaycard have rolled out five million contactless cards as part of a move to replace their card portfolios with the new feature.

Other major coffee-shop chains including Pret A Manger have also adopted the technology and larger retailers such as Boots are also implementing contactless payments.
