Parking can be a problem for disabled people

A new online government service has been launched to allow disabled Blue Badge holders to find information on parking bays, accessible toilets, and petrol stations with service call facilities, on their mobile phones.

The map-based system also provides information on local parking rules and regulations. Parking is an important consideration for many disabled people who often have to return home if they cannot find a suitable parking space.

A spokesman from charity Motability said: "The Blue Badge map on Mobile Service is an excellent idea and we are sure our customers will find it very reassuring to have so much helpful information at their fingertips. Using this service will take the worry out of driving to new places."

Services are shown on an interactive map available on the Directgov web site.

"We are always looking for new ways to engage with disabled people, their families and carers," said Stephen Martin at the Office for Disability Issues.
