Cray Electronics has changed its name to the Anite Group to avoid confusion with supercomputer maker Cray Research.
Group Chief Executive Jon Richards said: "We have had an informal agreement with Cray Research for many years. Recently, the activities of the two companies have moved closer, causing confusion in the marketplace."
Cray Communications splits into two: a network integration business called Anite Networks and a product division called Case Technology. The software arm, Cray Systems, becomes Anite Systems.
Cray Research has contributed #100,000 for the considerable goodwill associated with the name.
