Budget airline Flybe will allow its passengers travelling on a connecting flight to have luggage sent to the final destination, eradicating the need to make two separate website bookings.
The introduction of “through-ticketing” is aimed at speeding up boarding processes for business travellers, which represent around 20 per cent of Flybe’s customer base. But passengers will still have to go through the security checks at the airport where they change flights.
The carrier’s new offering will allow the introduction of new routes on its website, including Kirkwall to Norwich via Edinburgh and Guernsey to Aberdeen via Birmingham.
Flybe’s through-ticketing scheme is expected to support its franchising deal with Scottish regional airline Loganair, which will be taken over from British Airways in October. Loganair flies to 26 destinations from 16 airports, the majority of them connecting through Edinburgh and Glasgow.
