The Chartered Institute of Marketing, the world’s largest marketing association, has installed a wireless network at its UK headquarters.

Supplied by Aruba, the wireless local area network covers the Institute’s nine-acre Moor Hall site in Berkshire, which includes conference facilities and a residential training centre.

Chief executive Christine Cryne says that, in the past, there were few ways for trainees and conference delegates coming to the centre to access the internet.

‘Guests previously had to use telephone lines as they might at a hotel, and dial up using their own devices,’ she said.

The wireless network is controlled from a central location and can define permissions for each user.

These security permissions enable faculty employees and other permanent Institute staff, such as lecturers, to have access to secure resources that are unavailable to guests and trainees visiting Moor Hall, says Cryne.

‘Staff can go through the firewall in the normal way. But for people coming onto the site as guests, the security will be the same as you might get in an internet cafe or any other remote location,’ she said.
