Saudi Arabia has approved a list of 40 Internet service providers as it readies to open up the web to the general public for the first time. Saleh bin Abdel-Rahman al-Athel, president of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, said access will be granted next month. Access to the Internet is still likely to be limited by firewalls, which will prevent surfers from reading material deemed as unsuitable by the government.
