Microsoft has hit back at Netscape, claiming that two out of three UK enterprise customers have selected its Internet Explorer 4 as their standard web and intranet client.
The results came from the software giant's own survey of 603 UK blue chip customers - including Heinz, Kodak and the RAC.
According to the poll, 413 have chosen IE4, compared with 159 that chose Netscape's Navigator.
"We have one of the largest network installations in the country. Standardising across the company with one browser makes managing internet access much easier and more effective," said Malcolm Bullock, technical consultant for the Post Office Research Group.
"We decided to choose Internet Explorer because, together with the IE Administration Kit, we now have the flexibility over what users can install."
