Electronics giant Sony is so confident its internet-based games site will attract advertisers that it has formed a US-based company to develop online entertainment.
The new subsidiary, will offer games to its members and most of the revenue will come from advertisers which place ads in the natural breaks between 'rounds'. Lisa Simpson, president of Sony Online Entertainment, claims The Station has almost one million members and around half are female - a real pull for advertisers.
Its Jeopardy game attracts office workers in particular. "Sometimes I wonder if we're having a dramatic impact on the productivity of the American people," said Simpson. "I've heard we're banned in some workplaces."
