The National Computing Centre (NCC) has accused software vendors of ?arrogance? for not responding to its plea for help in creating standards to protect users? software investments, writes Lisa Kelly.
Only one vendor, Target Financial Systems, has signed up to an NCC conference in Manchester next month.
Backed by the European Committee for Standardisation, the conference aims to bring the IT industry together to discuss escrow guidelines ? standards for agreements that will give users access to the software source code of suppliers? products.
Jim Hume, technical analyst for Target Financial Systems, is urging other vendors to embrace escrow agreements: ?It gives customers confidence that if we cease to trade, they can continue in business.
?It gives vendors a good image and the gains from ensuring extra security far exceeds the minimal cost of an agreement.?
A spokesman for IBM said: ?It is not relevant to us ? IBM will not go bankrupt.?
