MDIS generated a small profit in 1997, as restructuring and improved public sector business took effect. Pre-tax profits of #200,000 remained too low for MDIS to begin issuing dividends to shareholders, but showed a significant improvement on 1996 losses of #49.6 million. Turnover rose nearly 9% to #116.9 million. An increase in operating profit of #2.8 million to #7.5 million in its public sector operations played a significant role in the improved performance.
