Temporary IT recruitment over the past 18 months in the UK appears to have picked up significantly as companies start investing in IT projects that had been deferred until now.

According to a report in the FT, the UK's largest IT recruitment agency Spring Group revealed a surge in revenues in 2004, which were up 35 per cent from the year before.

The surge in temporary recruitment now appears to be giving way to a more recent increase in permanent recruitment.

'In the last three months we've seen our permanent staff business pick up, as companies have started to feel more confident about the economy in general. It is still early days, but our outlook for 2005 is pretty encouraging,' said Spring Group chief executive Richard Barfield.

The company specialises in providing temporary IT staff to companies like Barclays, Reuters and Network Rail.
