MCI has agreed to sell the remainder of its Internet business to enable the #24bn merger with US telco carrier WorldCom to meet the demands of competition regulators. The European Union's trade competition panel ruled last week that the merger could proceed, but only if MCI sold the remainder of its Internet business. MCI sold its Internet backbone to UK telecoms carrier Cable & Wireless in a #378m deal earlier this month, following pressure from US and European trade regulators.
