Home furnishing retailer Habitat has overhauled its stock management systems to cut down on lost sales and improve store replenishment.

The new system will allow the company to get a more accurate idea of seasonal forecasting and stock re-ordering requirements, as well as streamlining its logistics and deliveries for 72 stores across the UK, France, Germany and Spain.

'Forecasting and planning demand is essential if we are to remain competitive,' said Yves Gauguier, IT director at Habitat.

Using software from business process integration firm Sterling Commerce, Habitat will implement its new stock management application, TXT Demand Planner, along side its existing SAP financial systems.

This will provide Habitat with real-time sales and stock information at different stores.

The upgrade replaces legacy interfaces and data that had become hard to operate, resulting in high costs and a lack of information in internal ordering and stock processes.

'[It is] easy-to-use and presents a speedy mechanism for developing new interfaces into our SAP system as our business requirements grow in the future,' said Gauguier.
