Barnet Borough Council has awarded a £6m contract to overhaul its IT infrastructure.

Some 60 council sites and 4,500 users will be covered by new wide and local area njetworks, IP telephony systems, remote access facilities and a storage area network under the terms of a five-year deal with Prime Business Solutions.

Councillor Mike Freer, Barnet’s cabinet member for policy and performance, says the council wants to completely overhaul its communications systems.

‘We are committed to modernising the council and this means investing in technology, so that we can release money for frontline services and move forward with many of our key strategies,’ he said.

Prime will maintain the systemsunder the terms of the deal.

Nathan Marke, a director at Prime, says the project will provide the foundation on which Barnet’s public services can make the council better to do business with.

‘Great technology is only part of the answer however; we must also ensure that we deliver an infrastructure that users will accept. To do this teamwork will be essential and LBB and Prime have carefully considered how an effective partnership between our two organisations,’ he said.
